BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT

Entrepreneurship and the Small Firm C10/D10

10 points (= 15 ECTS-credits) Study period: 3 Sept - 4 Nov 2001

The course aims at deepening and integrating students' knowledge within the various sub-disciplines of Business Administration with special reference to work with or within small and medium-sized enterprises. Apart from integration of the sub-disciplines of Business Administration, the course integrates theory and practice and covers individual, firm, and societal level perspectives on entrepreneurship and the small firm.

Module 1. Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development, 5 credits.

Module 2. Business Concepts and Small Business Strategies, 5 credits.

Prerequisites: Exchange students require a mini­mum of 40 credits from the A- and B-level courses in Business Administration for entry to the course. It corresponds to 60 ECTS-credits in basic courses in Business Administration (Management, Accounting, Financial Investments, Cost Accounting and Marke­ting).

International Controlling C

10 points (= 15 ECTS-credits) Study period: 21 Jan - 24 March 2002

The purpose of this course is to give the student an opportunity to gain knowledge of management accounting and control in modern international enterprises. The student will become familiar with the changing competitive environment: Most companies are now competing in a highly competitive global market. At the same time there has been a significant reduction in product life cycles arising from technological innovations and the need to meet increasingly discriminating customer demands. To compete successfully in today's highly competitive global environment companies are making customer satisfaction an overriding priority, adopting new management approaches, changing their manu­facturing systems and investing in new technologies. These changes are having a significant influence on management accounting and control systems; a number of emerging approaches and practices which seem to provide practical promise in helping mana­gement accountants/controllers respond to these challenges will be discussed.

Module 1. Cost Management in an International Perspective, 5 credits.

Module 2. Advanced Management Accounting, 5 credits.

International Corporate Finance D

10 points (= 15 ECTS-credits) Study period: 21 Jan - 24 March 2002

The purpose of the course is to give the student an opportunity to gain knowledge of the key financial decisions of the multinational firm.

The course aims to treat international financial management as a natural and logical extension of the principles learned in the foundations course in financial management It builds on and extends the valuations framework provided by domestic corporate finance to account for dimensions unique to international finance. While the international financial executive makes both investment and financing decisions as his/her domestic counterpart, he/she is faced with added political and economic risks as well as more complex tax laws and multiple financial markets.

Module 2. Multinational Financial Management, 5 credits

The purpose of the course is to gain knowledge about international marketing where the service companies constitute an increasing role. The second part will give the students deep knowledge about theories in service marketing and the ability to use them.

International Marketing C/D

10 points (= 15 ECTS-credits) Study period: 21 Jan - 24 March 2002

The purpose of the course is to gain knowledge of the complexity of international marketing problems associated with the choices of marketing strategy, marketing organization and the establishment of different markets in a global context. The students will acquire knowledge of both small and medium-sized companies initial activities in the internatio­nal market and multinational companies advanced marketing activities from a management perspective. The students will also gain knowledge of trade in overseas markets, as well as cultural, economic, legal and political differences.

Module 2. Internationally Emerging Markets, 5 credits.
